Double Header
By Ronen
This weekend, in light of a double header and a few too many beers to be had, I decided to train it to the game. So I grabbed a few Corona’s, got on the LIRR and headed to Hoboken, where I’d get a ride in the lap of luxury to the stadium in Brian’s limited edition SUV. Before I entered, I had to attest that I showered and provide a statement of financial worth. We proceeded to pick up the Keith, and more importantly, the beer, and were on our way to Giant’s Stadium, without any front fender flags, which I thought was weird.
The tailgate was a good one, with the ESC providing a TV so that we could watch the US barely beat world power Canada thanks to Donovan, who thankfully wasn’t in the Galaxy lineup. To be honest, as we thought, it was hard to catch the entire game, because…well…the cooler, packed with plenty of ice thankfully, was no where near the TV. But all in all, it was a great set up that we’ll have to miss next time if the game is more important.

So, you may ask, who decided to show up? Welp, Paul is clearly running away with this year’s Joey award, who also wasn’t there. Drew and John failed to show too. It’s the summer, these things happen. But for official idiot attendance purposes, Keith, Brian, Greg, Jason, Ofer, little Joey and Arel all showed up. Guests included Brian’s wife, Lori, his niece, Lara, Joshua, little Joey’s 2 friends, Marc and Brett.
Special tailgate guest was none other then Alexi Lalas, who demanded that Keith double the firstrowidiots membership in 2 weeks. Keith looked perplexed. Good conversation and a shot of Grey Agoos (thanks Jeff) had Alexi on his way for some president of a soccer team stuff.
On to the game. Metros got a questionable PK when Ante stumbled, which Amado was able to convert despite some questioning by the idiots of his confidence in taking the kick. Guevara was right; we were wrong. LA tied it later when Zach “I’m not trying for the ball unless I’m 100% certain its going in” Wells watched a ball skip by him, bounce off the post and go in. Gaven is back and headed a beautifully lifted ball from Guevara almost past Hartman who deflected the shot right back to Gaven who then slotted it in.
So we went home happy, as our team beat an undermanned LA team, and were treated to a few firsts. Jason making it through until the end with Joshua and substantial TRAFFIC leaving the stadium. Unfortunately, it wasn’t because of the fans in the stadium, but rather the Meadowland’s Fair and the fancy, limited edition Circus.
