Our Defense is Offensive

By Ronen

Idiots in Attendance: Me, Keith, Ofer, Drew, Greg, lil’ Joey and Arel.

Invitees: Sandi, Gretchen, Yosi, and Rafi

You couldn’t pick a more beautiful day for a tailgate or for the final home game. The grill never made it to the game and neither did the Metros.

We decided to substitute burgers, dogs and sausages with subs, pizza and chicken wings. But the beer supply was the same. I’m honestly not sure what I ate, but it’s a good thing I drank enough to sit through the game.

It was painful. In front of over 27,000 fans, the Metros once again mailed it in when their playoff lives were at stake. Our defense, resembling the swiss cheese on our subs, let up four goals, one of them an own goal by none other then Jeff Agoos (you may remember his GOLAZO against Friedel when we played Portugal in Korea).

Its time for Bob to buckle Mikey up in the car seat and get the hell out. I’m tired of watching our boys get outplayed. I’m tired of watching an 18 year old have the responsibilities of the defensive midfielder for the entire season, rack up the most minutes played on the team and also be responsible for the chores in the Bradley household. I think its unfair that the King has improved 100 percent this season, hustled and given more then 90 percent of the players, only to sit on the bench so we can watch Ante gesture in frustration to Youri “I’ve won a World Cup” Djorkaeff that his passes were off the mark and should have been played to where Ante was standing.

I’m tired of watching other teams in the MLS play the way we should be playing. There is no pride, there is no passion. Our defense might as well join us in the front row to watch the game. Our coach has had three years to bring the Metros to the plateau where teams like DC regularly play. He’s failed. He’s been unable to motivate any of the players to put together a team that makes admission worth it. I could care less if we stumble into the playoffs (Kansas City lost too, so there’s still a chance we can make it).

This was a home game against our most hated rival, in front of a great turnout, and we're let down, yet again.

I’m done with this year. There’s no reason I should get upset with a loss if the players don’t. Youri is the class of the team. Shame we can’t have 10 more like him. There’s been plenty of reasons tossed around as to why the attendance has been down, why the Metros are the bastard child in the New York media family, and so on. The reason why was on display against DC. If our team doesn’t seem to care, why should we?

Thanks for the memories Bob. Alexi, we’re waiting.

Editor's Note: This story was written on Sunday, before Bob was "relieved" of his head coaching duties and replaced by Mo Johnston as interim coach.
