firstrowidiots.com (FRI): Mike, how does it feel to be back?
Mike Magee (MM): It’s incredible. I’m glad to be back. First and foremost, I love New York, and I love Mo and the whole organization, but the whole excitement with Red Bull has brought a whole another element to it.
This pre-season wasn’t a good example of what’s going to come and obviously bringing in Edson, Amado, Youri and myself, and all the players we have, we have a job to do and that’s to score more goals and I know we’re going to do it.
FRI: How do you feel about the whole New York and New Jersey controversy?
MM: We’ve had similar fans from day one. I think they are well aware of what we play for and whether it’s called New York or New Jersey and I don’t think it matters much. I think obviously, we want goals, whether they tag us as New York Red Bulls, Red Bull New York. Either way, we see the people in the stands from the child, to the old people who come, they mean the world to us no matter where they come from.
FRI: Who wears the pants: Alexi or Mo?
MM: [Laughs] As of right now, [laughs] I think they share the pants, but I’d say right now, I want to start the game on Sunday, I’d say Mo.
FRI: Seth [Stammler] is sitting next to us. Seth, who wears the pants?
Seth Stammler: Myself.
MM and SS: [laughter]
FRI: I’ve been a fan since day one, 1996, and this is probably the most opportunism I’ve had for a team.
MM: This is going to be my fourth year and the excitement level is incredible right now. The team is a great group of guys and great soccer players as well.
FRI: Are you guys required to drink Red Bull before games?
MM: [Laughs] No, everyone talks about that. It’s a good energy drink and that’s what it’s useful for.
