Do You Think He Heard Us?

By Ronen

Saturday’s game vs. San Jose was a good one for our team, and was the following act to a great tailgate.

The Tailgate

Absentee Members: Paul, Jason, Greg, Drew. Drew’s nursing a back injury. Greg’s still banned and has declared he will not be coming to any more games. Jason couldn’t escape this time. Paul with another mystery absence. He must be Peter Parker.

The menu was a standard one with burgers and dogs, while "Ah-Yeah" manned the grill for the first time and did a fine job. Keith brought too much beer, Brian is enjoying his reinstatement and Joey shocked us all by not only showing up, but also announcing that he picked a date for his sentencing… I mean wedding. November 13th it is, which comes as no surprise as the day before the MLS Cup which the Metros will play in this year. Thanks for checking the schedule, Joey. Just don’t schedule any of the pre-wedding stuff on a game day…oh yeah, and congratulations. If any ladies show up from now on, Keith is their only option.

We were visited by none other than Alexi Lalas (now President of San Jose Earthquacks) who hung out with us for most of the tailgate and drank a few beers and even did a shot of Johnnie Walker, in honor of our beloved keeper. You’d hope and pray that every teams President was like Alexi. For those who don’t know, Alexi is a former US National team player and also played for the Metros, Galaxy and Revolution.

Alexi was there helping out a filmmaker making a documentary about MLS. Most of us were interviewed for the piece and we’ll see what happens...developing...

FYI: According to Alexi, most intimidating place to play in CONCACACACACAFF world cup qualifying is Costa Rica, not Mexico.

By unanimous vote, Keith’s tribute to Galvan-Rey, the King of Goals, has been postponed until the July 24th game against the Fire.

Sherwyn made his first appearance at the tailgate with his daughter.

The Game

Metros pull out a great 2-0 win to move them into first place of the division. I left at the half to go to a wedding, so I heard Woly’s goal on Spanish radio and was able to see Magee’s dive and subsequent PK by Amado on TV. Overall very hot day when most of us got to wear out new black metromember caps courtesy of the front office. Great thinking.

Notable missing players included both Eddies for Metro as well as baby jesus for San Jose, who were all involved in the US vs. Poland game the following day in Chicago, which ended as a 1-1 tie.
