Buy another case of Heinekens!...

By Brian

...because all Metros fans need to get drunk to forget about last Sunday's debacle against the Columbus Crew - not to mention the buzz we'll need to forget the preceding two matches as well : (

After grabbing an early lead Sunday night on the "Golden Touch" of John Wolyniec, the Metros played like they drank 7 Heinekens each and let the Crew climb back for a 1-1 draw.

Tailgate: It takes team work to make a successful tailgate (and some cold Heinekens) and that was never more evident than last weekend under good ole parking lamppost #16A in East Rutherford, NJ. (For the record the East Rutherford judge is very nice). Thanks to the early morning hustle of Johnny (he drove to Hoboken by 10am to deliver the grill), Ronen's quick tent work, Keith's bottle opener, and continued effort right on through to Drew slugging down the last Heineken, it was another terrific grade A tailgate with much fun, sun, food and Heinekens. Some people had Coronas too. I think Glen (my friend), Drew, Paul, Keith and myself had Heinekens; everybody else didn't. We missed Ofer and Johnny...but not Jason as much.

Transition: This is a new feature I'm introducing this week and it possibly may never be included again. Normally the transition from tailgate to match is relatively uneventful, but not this week. Due to an apparent malfunction with an electronic ticket counter, the Metro Stadium Security rudely and abruptly locked out the Danny Szetela's family and fans. How embarrassing?! The snafu effected me as well and I was momentarily locked out, I proceeded to another ticketing agent. Once the handheld authorized my entry, I told the Szetela's crew and they entered via the same path. However at that point, the Szetelas weren't quite as content as I was. They proceeded to verbally assault the other "malfunctioning" agent and the ensuing verbal melee between Security and Szetela Brothers would make a Rahway prisoner blush. Frankly I was very embarrassed for all parties. Upon relaying what I had witness to Ronen and Paul, I was interrupted by Mrs. Szetela. (yes, Danny's Mom!) She told me that her sons are really good people and that they were just upset about how they were handled. Let's just say Mrs. S (sounds like Z), that I'm no stranger to Stadium Security, and after seeing what they did to me and to my buddy Greg - I don't think they are too fond of bad attitudes...and Poles?!

Game: It's Deja Vu all over again! Once again the Metros, in this writer's opinion, couldn't muster the will to finish off another opponent. Ever since the scorching loss to the Burn, we appear shaken and it seems that we have lost our confidence. Frankly the lack of desire from our Metros is unsettling. They need to play with more intensity - that's what it's going to take to become a Champions - this means you Eddie Pope! No sense in rehashing an uninspiring draw, just one question? When will Coach Bradley get these guys motivated to win each and every week???!!!
